With spring right around the corner, it's time to start preparing for spring cleaning. Although this can be a dreadful task, it’s a great way to freshen up your life and make room in your day for what matters most to you. You may have heard of the “KonMari Method” of organizing that focused on sparking joy. More joy sounds good to us! Make the process of cleaning and organizing a little easier with these four tips to help guide you to a clean home.
- Make a list. Thinking about all the things you need to clean can be overwhelming. Instead, look around your home and ask yourself: What areas need the most work? Start with those and create a plan for tackling each room.
- Declutter. Studies have shown that home organization is one of the most universal stress triggers. Start going through your clutter, ask yourself if you really need those items, and get rid of the unnecessary stress in your life. Once you’ve done this, a weight will be lifted off your shoulders and you can begin organizing your home.
- Always start from top to bottom. Working from the ceiling down will force the dirt downward and keep you from having to re-clean each area. Use a vacuum with a long extension hose to get cobwebs and dust from your ceilings and fans. Then, dust your furniture and other items before vacuuming your floors.
- Don’t forget about the walls and windows. Use a sponge to wipe down walls and a towel to wipe down blinds. Make sure to get the outside too by removing and wiping down the screens. For the windows, use a steam cleaner with a squeegee to ensure they’re squeaky clean.
